Child Protection Month – April 2011
Each year, April is recognized as Child Protection Month. The time is used to sensitize the community to all forms of abuse perpetrated on our children. This includes sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect. During this month we will be providing information on the different forms of child abuse and the impact it can have on their young lives.
All forms of abuse hurt!
Children need to be loved. They have a right to live a life free from fear, pain and abuse.
Those who have been abused may experience:
- Feelings of isolation
- Low self-esteem
- Self destructive behaviour
Many of these feelings can continue into adulthood and may cause long term emotional problems and difficulty in forming trusting relationships.
