Family Fair and Cultural Show 9th May 2009
Well, it is over! The Family Fair and Cultural Show went off with a bang yesterday on the grounds of the National Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Booths selling food, clothing, accessories and other items as well as bouncing castles and a carousel provided entertainment for adults and children alike. The sun was hot so sodas and snow cones sold especially well. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force Band put on a wonderful display as the event was officially opened by the Minister of State for Social Development, Mrs. Loretta Butler-Turner, following a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem by our own, Camille Smith.
Soon after 7pm, when the booths were being dismantled, the Cultural Show began inside the Theatre. An array of Bahamian artists entertained the audience for two hours with a variety of dance, drums, bands new songs and traditional Bahamian music.
Congratulations go out to the hard working team who organized both the Fair and the Cultural Show, especially Chekera Hamilton, Jedetra Ingraham and Jan Thurston. They put so much energy and planning into this major fund raising event, the likes of which the Crisis Centre has never attempted before. We thank them for all their hard work. We must also thank Novelette Fox, the Administrator, who also worked hard to make this event a success.
To those volunteers who came out to assist on the day, donated cases of soda, sold tickets and distributed flyers we say thanks too.
Training will continue this coming week starting on Thursday evening at 6pm.
