notes from meeting held 21st march 2009
I am sorry to say I did not attend the meeting but was given information from those who were there. This post has been delayed too by the fact that I have been busily preparing posters for an exhibition to be held in Princess Margaret Hospital to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month, more recently named Child Protection Month. The exhibit will be up from 6th April until the end of the month.
The meeting was fairly well attended with quite a few new volunteers who are anxiously awaiting training. Donna Nicolls, who is coordinating the training sessions gave an overview of what the training will comprise.
The first dates are April 16-18 (Thursday evening until Saturday morning), or alternatively April 23-25. The modules will address Self Awareness, the Crisis Centre, Domestic Violence and Sexual Violence, which includes Human Trafficking.
The second sessions will take place on either April 30-May 2 or May 14-16 and will address Child Abuse, the Effects of Trauma and Hotline training.
The final session will be on Saturday May 30 or June 11 which will be a test/evaluation.
Volunteers will be able to choose on which dates they will attend.
Tony Smith gave an inspiring presentation on Budgeting, setting out a budgeting plan which included determining objectives, definitions, establishing how one should live financially, given one’s means, getting out of debt, how to snowball your debt (paying off the smallest ones first) and most importantly, creating a budget and sticking to it.
Volunteers found the information very helpful.
Chekera gave an update on the Fair to be held on May 9th. She and her team members have worked hard to make the Fair and Cultural Show a success. All volunteers are asked to participate as much as possible.
I hope you all have a peaceful and blessed Easter. The next meeting will be held on Saturday, 18th April (to be confirmed as training is at that time too!)
